 When Nolan Bushnell created Atari back in the early 1970s, he launched the entire video game industry, and now, the Godfather is returning to his roots. Bushnell will return to Atari as part of the company's board of directors.

"I am very excited to be reacquainted with Atari at a time when it is poised to make interesting strides in key growth areas of the games industry. The company and its iconic brands have always been important to me, and I look forward to further guiding them at the board level," said Bushnell in a statement.

In other Atari top-exec news, Phil Harrison has resigned his position of director of Atari. Until 2008, Harrison was President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. Also joining Team-Atari is Tom Virden founder of Boatbookings.com, a charter yacht company.
Bushnell not only was instrumental in Atari's early success, he also created Chuck E. Cheese, and is, therefore, responsible for the childhood of an entire generation of children... but it's been awhile since either Atari or Chuck E. was at the top of their power and influence: Can Bushnell work his magic again? It would make a great movie... oh, wait, that movie is in production, starring Leo DiCaprio as Bushnell. I wonder if Atari will end with a triumphant, pipe-chomping Bushnell strolling back into Atari's boardroom and announcing, "There's gonna be some changes around here!"
